In January, Karen W. from Rainier, OR sent this email through the GJB web site:
Saw your article in the Jan. 2007 America's Horse. Went to your website and saw that you are trying to solicit George Strait's involvement as narrator of your documentary. I'm a big fan of Mr. Strait. In the same magazine is an article "Cowboy Man" beginning on page 17. Lyle Lovett has a shown a deep commitment to AQHA and has roots in "racing". My suggestion, for what it's worth, would be to invite him to participate in this project."
I am embarrassed to admit that I didn't respond to Karen's email until last month. Terrible, I know! I can claim inane excuses like job work, ranch work, surgery, chairing the hospice fundraiser, and trying to keep tabs on a 16 year old, but I won't. The truth is I just didn't know what to do with that suggestion. We have sent tens of thousands (ok, maybe just tens) of letters and project packets out via anyone and everyone who knows someone, who knows someone, who knows George Strait. Not even the faintest whisper back from King George. CRIPES! And they say George has even roped at the J.B. Wells arena!
Now, if Karen had written that she knew Lyle and thought he might be interested, and if we wanted she would talk to him for us, well YEAH BABY! Anyway, Karen I apologize for the inordinately long delay in responding to your email, and it is a GREAT idea. Chris Elley, the documentary director, loved your suggestion too. Now... how do we reach Lyle? Does anybody know someone, who knows someone, who might be related to someone....
P.S. If you send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org I swear it won't take me 8 months to respond!
